I'm not sure if this is an italyxreaderxromano, but I'm just going to put it as an Italyxreader. Please correct me if I am wrong ^^"
Walking around the foreign streets of Italy, you stopped by a small yet crowded restaurant. They sat you down and after ordering your meal you set your head in your hands, trying to control your tears. How could you have let that happen? It was completely unbelievable. You had just lost the love of your life, Lovino. You ran your fingers through your hair, frustratedly trying to think. You had been with Lovino for three years after meeting him in college, and he had never talked about his family at all... But you were going to meet them very soon, at his wake. You could no longer hold it in and let a few tears streak your pale face. Just as you were about to start wailing, you felt a tap on your shoulder and a glass being set on the table.
"I'm sorry to bother you miss, but the restaurant is packed, would you mind if we seat this gentleman with you?" your waitress sweetly asks, gesturing towards a man who had his back turned.
"Y-yeah, it's fine..." you said, looking back down, trying not to stutter a lot.
"Thank you so much ma'am! Sir, you could sit here with this lovely woman, sorry for the trouble!" she bowed and walked away, leaving a menu for the man on the opposite side of you. The man sat down and started shuffling through the menu. He ordered his food, then looked up at you.
"Ciao bella, I'm-a so very sorry you're-a stuck with-a me..." he said, in a forced energetic voice.
His accent... It sounds just like Lovino's... You teared up and started to play with the hem of your black skirt. You decided to take a peek at the man who sat in front of you, and your jaw dropped. This man looked exactly like Lovino. Almost every single detail was the same.
You shook your head ' great, I miss him so much, now I'm seeing things...'
He saw you when you took a peek, and smiled at you. You blushed and decided to keep your head up for this stranger.
"So, what brought you to Italy?" he asked, sweetly.
"I-I'm here for a funeral..." you said, starting to tear up. You held your hand out over the table.
"(y/n). (yourfullname). And you are?"
He smiled a big, bright smile "Ve~ I'm Feliciano. Feliciano Vargas. I'm sorry that your here for a funeral, I am too. I haven't been here since I was a kid and lived here with mio fratello..."
You froze hearing that last name.
"V-Vargas? A-Are you related to Lovino Vargas?" you almost whispered, voice starting to quiver.
"Yeah! That's mio fratello! How do you know him?"
You tried to make eye contact with him, but couldn't hold it.
"W-We were engaged... Why do you look so much like him?" you started crying and he started to freak out.
"(y-yn)! Don't cry! I had no idea... I'm sorry! We're twins! I haven't heard from my fratello since he moved to America to go to college... He never called, or wrote me... And now the only time I get to see him is when he's dead..." he started bawling and curled up in the chair he was sitting in. Seeing him cry made you cry too. You both were crying together when you heard him inaudibly squeak something.
"How did it happen? Tell me how he died," he choked out.
You whimpered and looked up at him. His amber eyes that looked just like Lovino's sparkled with tears, his hair one shade lighter than Lovino's, though his features seemed less, how should I put this, tsundere? He seemed like the kind of guy that would be happy with anything and everything. Even the same strange gravity-defying curl was there, just on the opposite side...
"hellooo, (y/n)?" he looked you in the eyes as you stared him up and down.
"O-Oh, right. Well here's how it went..."
~~~~~Memory of Lovi's death~~~~~
It was a chilly winter evening, you two had just spent the whole day together, for it was your three year anniversary. You two had gone to the park, then Lovino took you to an Italian restaurant. You two had walked there from the park, and since it as dark Lovino refused to let you walk home alone, even if you lived only a block away. You two walked down the deserted road, hand in hand when Lovino suddenly stopped.
"(y/n)..." he let go of your hand and looked at the floor, nervously putting his hands in his pockets.
"Y-Yes Lovi?" you tilted your head in curiosity.
He sighed and looked you in the eyes.
"We've been together for three years, and you have definitely made my life better. At first I thought you were a stupid ragazza, but you always made my heart flutter 'dammit! Why does she do this to me?!' I would always think. Until I realized: it's love. And now I don't want to live without you," about halfway through his little speech, he avoided all eye contact with you, face sporting a cherry red blush. "Ti amo bella ragazza, so (y/n), sposarmi? (marry me?)" he held a small, black, velvet box in his hand as he was no longer on two feet, but down on one knee like in one of those romance movies.
You gaped at the sight, mouth forming a small "o" quickly covered by your hands. You felt hot, salty liquid start to pour from your eyes. He finally looked up at you, eyes silently pleading for an answer, his normal scowl replaced with a soft, delicate smile. Trying to get words to form, the lump in your throat refused to cooperate, so instead, you tackled Lovino to the ground, now crying hard.
"Ch-Chigi! Did I do something wrong? (y/n) stop crying! I understand, I'm-a stupid," he whimpered " I'm-a such a bastardo! I'm-a sorry bella, I know you might not want to since we're-a still young... Please forgive me! I promise I will-mmpfh!" you cut him off by smashing your lips against his.
"Why would I say no?" you giggled, messing up his hair a little.
He sighed in relief and helped you up, along with himself. He opened up the box and pulled out the ring. The ring, however, did not want to stay in his hands, sweaty from the anxiety of the situation. It jumped out of his hands and into the middle of the road. You gasped and ran for the ring, obviously thinking the road was empty as always.
"Idiota! What are you doing?!" he yelled running after you.
As you approached the ring, you bent over, picked it up, and started to walk away when you noticed high beams blinding your vision. You froze, like a deer in headlights as the vehicle grew closer and closer.
"(Y/N)!!!!" you saw Lovino hurdling towards you and shove you out of the way, just in the nick of time. You picked yourself up off the ground, and heard the sickening sound of bones crushing, and the ear splitting sound of Lovino screaming. You immediately turned around and teared up at the sight. Lovino was laying on the ground, bones massacred and out of proportion, yelling out a plethora of colourful words. Blood slowly trickled from his torso and legs, making the dark cement even darker. You ran to his side and held his hand tightly against your chest.
"S-Stupid ragazza... Why did y-you have to chase it?" he chuckled, coughing out blood.
"S-Stay here! I'll go get hel-"
"It's too late for that, I'm not gonna make it ragazza" he paused to splutter more blood, his grip slightly loosening from yours," Just stay with me bella, I'm not going to have much more time..."
Tears were streaming down your face as you tightened your grip on his hand.
"Lovi! Don't die! I can't live without you!"
"(Y-Y-Y/n), listen to me. I know you won't want to live without me, but you have to live on for me. I want you to die as a little old lady, not a young, broken hearted woman. This is just how it was meant to be... I'm so glad I got to be with you before I passed on..." his voice was getting weaker and weaker.
" Bella, could you sing for me?" he pleaded, life slowly fading from his eyes. You nodded and began singing:
Goodnight, sleep tight
No more tears
In the morning I'll be here
And when we say goodnight,
Dry your eyes
Because we said goodnight,
And not goodbye
"T-Ti.. amo...(y/n)..." you heard Lovino whisper as his breaths became short and shallow.
We said goodnight
You heard him say your name one last time, then his body went limp. You kissed him gently on the forehead.
"Th-that's how it happened" you stuttered, looking up to see the look on Feliciano's face.
He was looking down at his lap, hair covering his face, shoulders shaking violently.
"T-That's so sad... My brother isn't really one for giving Anything up for anyone, he must've really cared for you (y/n).. I just wish he would've cared for me like that," Feliciano whimpered, distracting himself with sugar packets.
At this point, a new waitress came by, placing piping hot plates of food in front of you two, a big, contagious smile on her face.
"Anythin' else I can get for you twos?" she said, smacking her gum every few seconds.
"Uh, can I get a couple of tomatoes?" you asked, rubbing your stomach smiling.
"Sure thing sugar! I'll be right back with those!" she smiled and walked towards the kitchen.
That lady turned your day around for the moment.
"Ve~ you eat raw tomatoes? Lovino did that too!" he smiled, trying to change the subject to a happy one.
"Yeah! I guess it kind of grew on me, you know living with him, he always includes tomatoes in every meal! And I've been craving them a lot more lately," you smiled and looked at your slowly growing belly.
The waitress returned with a couple of tomatoes and smiled.
"anythin' else?" she asked, contagious smile returning to her face.
"Um, could you point me to your restroom?" you asked shyly, feeling a bit queasy.
"Oh! It's over there, to the left, next door to your right!"
"No problem!" she turned and walked to another table.
You struggled to get up, so Feliciano quickly got up and helped you out of your seat.
"No problem! Hey (y/n) can I ask you a question? Don't take it offensively if I'm wrong, but are you... Pregnant?" He placed his hand on your swollen stomach.
You blushed and nodded, placing your hand on top of his.
"I'm about five months pregnant, with Lovi's child," you smiled, but quickly feeling nauseous, you ran to the restroom leaving him to his thoughts.
He stood there, dumbfounded. You and his brother..? You had a baby Lovino in you? How did the stork manage that!? He took his seat and played with his pasta, thinking about the good times he and his brother have had. They weren't always the best of brothers, what with their night and day personalities, but he still had some good times with him. But for every good moment they had followed three bad ones. He remembered the last time they saw each other, and how Lovino said he wanted no part of this "dysfunctional family" Feliciano begged him to keep in contact with him, but Lovino looked at his little brother with sad eyes and said "I'm sorry, but I can't," then left without another word.
You returned and Feliciano jumped up from his chair and pulled yours out for you.
"Thank you Feliciano!"
"Please, just call me Feli!"
"Okay... Feli," you giggled, testing out the nickname.
He smiled, liking the way it sounded from your mouth. Both of you stared to dig into your now warm food. After you two finished your food, you payed the bill and walked out together.
"So, (y/n), do you have anyone that is going to help you raise the child?"
You stopped walking and thought about it, then shook your head. His facial expression changed from cheery and bright to sad and depressed.
"No family? Friends?"
"Everyone in my family refuses to communicate with me because I got pregnant before marriage, and all of my friends hated Lovino. But since I was in love and I had Lovi, I guess none of it really mattered!" you said in a weak attempt to cheer Feli up.
He smiled weakly in return, but you knew this wasn't a genuine smile. He took your hand and looked you I'm the eyes.
"(y/n), why don't you live in Sicily with me? I can take care of you and the little bambino!"
You froze and stared at him in disbelief.
"T-thanks Feli, but don't you think that's a bit sudden? I only met you today, and for your twin brothers funeral nonetheless..."
"Ve! I didn't mean to be forward! I just.. I can't explain it! I feel obligated to because you were fratello's girl, and he hasn't cared for anyone like he cared for you."
You started tearing up again when he said this.
" That is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me Feli... Thank you so much!"
"So I take that as a yes?" Feli squeaked.
"Sure! I have no one else that will care for me, and I think it'll be nice for my kid to have a man to look up to!"
He smiled and took your hands and buried his face in them. You could feel his warm tears on your cold hands. You rested your head on his chest and tried to get him to stop crying. Once you got him to calm down, you grabbed onto his arm and started walking to the cemetery.
The funeral was truly a sad thing. You looked around, expecting to see maybe one or two people, but instead you saw a small group of at least 20 people gathered around the meeting area. You stopped walking and let go of Feliciano's arm. This caused him to stop ailing and turn around to look at you, a confused look on his face.
"I-I don't think I can do this..." you whimpered, walking backwards slowly.
You tripped over a bench and Feli caught you just as you were about to hit the floor. He chuckled.
"(y/n), you can do it! I believe in you! I know this is going to be hard, it is for all of us! But it's alright to be afraid. Just know that you aren't alone, this is going to be hard for us all. And be careful! I would want you to hurt my little nephew or niece!"
You started sniffling and nodded. He picked you up and placed you on your feet as the two of you headed into the small crowd.
You were greeted by many who had no idea who you were, but they treated you like family. It was a foreign feeling that made you wonder why Lovino didn't want to keep in contact with them. You met his 'fathers' Gilbert,Antonio and Francis, and some other, very interesting family members.
Antonio said a little speech at the memorial and started to breakdown about halfway through, so Francis tried to finish it for him, but also started to crack, so Gilbert finished it off for them. The small crowd was howling and blubbering when Feliciano pushed you up there to say a few words. The whole room went silent as they watched you move to the small podium. You took a deep breath and began to say a few words.
"Lovino was.. A kind man. Sure he could be stubborn and hard to deal with sometimes, but it was just that that made him special." you sniffled having to say all of this out loud to his family and friends.
"Just who the hell are you?" you heard someone say.
"Me? I'm Lovino's fiancée. Or at last was.. We were to be married soon, but then he..." you started bawling as everyone stood there, shocked.
After saying that, you heard question after question being thrown at you by everyone around. The one question you heard the most was: How did he die? You flinched at hearing that question, then sighed and told the story again. Everyone was a sobbing mess when you stepped away from the podium. They looked at your swollen stomach and started crying louder, if that was even possible. Many people gave you very sad looks and tried to give you reassuring advice, but you were completely numb. You felt Feli wrap his arms around you as Lovino's casket was being lowered into the ground, to be stuck there. Forever. As they buried him, you cried into Feli's chest, soaking his black dress shirt. He gently rubbed circles on your back, trying to comfort you. After a half hour of waiting for you to calm down, you left some roses on his grave, then walked back back to your hotel room, collecting your things to go move in with Feliciano. He packed your things into an empty room, as you plopped onto the bed, staring at the ceiling. This isn't the end, it's the start of a beautiful, new beginning.
