(y/n) sighed as she picked up a stick, starting to draw in the dirt. It was her birthday, yet everyone forgot about her. Tears started to form in her eyes as she remembered the day from start to end.
(y/n) had woken up in the morning, excited to finally turn (y/a)! She sprung up out of bed and ran downstairs, ready to greet her loved ones. When she made it downstairs, she saw a note on the fridge.
'Dear (y/n),
Your step father, your sister, your brother and I all went to mexico. There's food in the fridge, you know how to cook.
-Mom'
(y/n)'s eyes started watering as she crumbled the note and threw it in the garbage.
"HOW COULD YOU GUYS FORGET MY BIRTHDAY?!" she cried to no one, curling up into a ball in the corner of the room.
'Maybe my friends will remember' she thought, hoping she was right.
she pulled out her phone and called her friend Alfred.
"Hello?"
"Hey Al, Its (y/n)"
"oh! how are you?" she could hear the smile in his voice.
"Meh, not bad. Is there anything special going on today?" he stayed quiet for a while.
"hmm... Oh! Yeah there is!" her heart jumped a bit "I got the new halo earlier! Wanna play?"
"n-no thanks Alfred... I gotta go" she hung up with a sigh and tried calling her other friends.
Friend after friend she kept getting forgotten. Even Feliciano who is excellent with birthdays! She curled up into a corner and sighed, drawing her knees up to her chest. She silently wept, letting all the emotions go. (y/n) never really was one for crying, so when she cried, they were alligator tears. But every once and a while they were real, and when they were real, she could not stop them.
She decided to get up and get dressed, dragging herself to the nearby park. If she couldn't spend it with people she loved might as well spend it somewhere she loved.
(y/n) stopped crying and threw on a (f/c) dress with white lace on the bottom trim and headed outside.
She started walking to the nearby park which was always abandoned. "Just like me" she always said. As she arrived, she walked over to her favourite swings set, and froze. On one of the swings sat a boy with dirty blonde hair and violet eyes and a weird curl thing that didn't seem to stay in place. He was wearing a red and white hoodie with the Canadian flag on it and blue jeans. (y/n) shrugged. The one day she was alone she found a stranger at her park... Great. She took the seat next to him and started swinging. She was doing her best to ignore this boy, but he hadn't even said a word nor had he acknowledged her. 'maybe I really am invisible' her eyes started watering up 'No, not here!' she jumped off the swing, falling over on the sand, and ran towards her favourite tree. Unfortunately, this park didn't really have anywhere to hide, so when she got to the tree, she sat down and cried hard, picking up a stick and drawing in the dirt, hoping it would calm her down.
Matthew looked up as he saw a girl approaching him and got ready to say something, but he was too shy. He instead looked down at his lap, ignoring her. But a few minutes later, she jumped off the swing and collapsed on the ground. He had started to get up to help, but she ran off. 'somethings wrong..' he thought as he ran after the girl. He followed her and stopped close behind, taking a deep breath. 'you can do this Matthew'
"B-Bonjour" he said to the girl as he crouched down.
The girl looked up at him, makeup running down her cheeks. Matthew sighed and sat next to her.
"I-I'm Matthew, who are you?" Matthew smiled, hoping it would be contagious.
The girl smiled a bit, then wiped her tears.
"(y/n)" she stated simply, looking away.
Matthew felt his heart skip a beat. Was this normal?
"It's nice to meet you, eh! Could I ask why you're crying?" he wiped her tears away, hoping to get her to stop crying.
She nodded, then sighed "Everyone forgot about me today, and it's my birthday too" she blushed slightly as the stranger wiped her tears.
"I'm so sorry (y/n)! Happy birthday! Everyone forgets about me too, especially when I'm around my big brother" he sighed and added a cute little 'eh' at the end, causing her to giggle.
She smiled and shyly wrapped her arms around this stranger "How about we be invisible together?"
He could feel his heart pounding against hers, could she feel it too?
He blushed darkly and nodded "Th-That would be nice" he smiled, then got up, holding a hand out for her.
She blushed and took it, and wiped the dirt off her dress "Where are we going?"
"Back to the swings" he smiled and held her hand the whole way there.
Once they got there, (y/n) sat down on a swing, expecting him to sit next to her. She let out a squeal of surprise when she felt the swing jerk forwards from a soft push that was given behind her. She looked behind her and saw Matthew smiling and pushing her. She laughed loudly and pointed to the one next to her. He nodded and they both sat there swinging until it got dark.
"Could I walk you home (y/n)?" he asked, holding his hand out.
(y/n) blushed darkly and nodded, taking his hand, guiding him to her house. They both talked about everything they could on the way there. Family, friends, forgotten memories. But when they arrived to her house it all had to stop. (y/n) sighed.
"This is my house mattie..." she frowned, not wanting him to leave yet.
He nodded sadly "Well, I should probably get going then. But c-can I give you a birthday present first?" he was blushing and looking down at his feet.
"Sure" she said, confused. He had only known it was her birthday for a day, how could he possibly...?
He sighed in happiness and got closer to her, pulling her into a hug. He wrapped his arms around her waist as she wrapped hers around his neck. She smiled and started to let go, when he jerked forwards and pressed his lips against hers. She froze for a moment, then melted into the kiss, her lips moving in sync with his. The kiss was soft, yet held lots of feelings and emotions. They both pulled away when the need for air grew too great.
"That was the best birthday present anyone has ever given me... Thanks Matthew" (y/n) smiled, then slipped a piece of paper into his pocket and winked at him before disappearing inside.
Matthew blushed and looked at the paper.
'call me! (insert phone number)'
